The Cleveland Browns are in search of a new head coach after the firing of Kevin Stefanski after six seasons at the helm.
This is going to be fast-paced, and expect the Browns to cast a wide net. That means there will be a lot of information coming in, perhaps too much to keep up with. That’s why we are here at Browns Wire. We will keep this tracker up to date and active for as long as Cleveland’s search for a new head coach continues.
Stay tuned here as this live tracker will keep you up to date on all the action as the Browns search for a new man in charge:
Browns schedule second interviews with Browns (one former) coordinators
Both former Browns and Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz have been granted second interviews and will meet with the Browns again next week.
Rams defensive coordinator gets an interview request in Cleveland
The Cleveland Browns are bringing in another Rams assistant. After already requesting to interview their passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, the Browns have now asked to speak with their defensive coordinator. Chris Shula has gotten a request to speak with the Browns for their head coaching vacancy.
Up-and-coming offensive mind gets request from Browns
The Browns have requested to interview Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udkinski. A quarterbacks coach with the Minnesota Vikings a year ago with Sam Darnold’s resurgence, then with Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars this year, Udinski has earned a strong reputation around the NFL.
Browns hunt the next McVay with new interview request
Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase has been requested for an interview with the Browns. He has 10 years of coaching experience at both the NFL and college levels.
Former Browns WR coach and Dolphins HC getting an interview
Add recently-fired Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to the list.
Browns officially reach out to John Harbaugh for an interview
As the search continues, the Browns have made contact with the former Ravens head coach, per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini:
Highly-regarded Chargers defensive coordinator gets an interview request
The Browns have requested to interview Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. In a long line of successful former Michigan defensive coordinators, Minter is regarded as the next.
Browns doing their homework on AFC North foe
According to Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns are “definitely” doing their homework on recently-fired Ravens head coach John Harbaugh:
“A Toledo native, Harbaugh is extremely well thought of by the Browns organization. But if the Browns really want him, they’ll likely have to fight hard for him. He’s in demand, and a bidding war could ensue for his services.”
First interview request comes in
After three seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, Todd Monken is out on his feet again, given the firing of John Harbaugh. The Browns have requested to interview him as they search for a new head coach. Monken was the Browns’ offensive coordinator during the tumultuous 2019 season that John Dorsey and Freddie Kitchens crafted.
Browns tab ascending defensive mind Aden Durde for interview
Spending time as the defensive line coach with the Dallas Cowboys, and the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks, the United Kingdom’s own Aden Durde is in line to speak with Cleveland’s brass.
Bengals OC Dan Pitcher gets a request
While Dan Pitcher, the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, does not call plays, he has gotten an interview request from the Browns. He has some buzz among NFL insiders as he looks for a potential promotion up I-71 North from Cincinnati. Here is what ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has to say on Pitcher:
“Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher is an under-the-radar coaching option this cycle. He could have some traction in Cleveland, for example. Cincinnati’s offense remained respectable through a tough year. Some teams could try to lure him as a playcaller somewhere (Zac Taylor still calls plays in Cincinnati), but Pitcher should have a chance at a head job. He’s believed to have the right demeanor and leadership qualities for such a position, but the Bengals aren’t exactly a hot team.”
Browns to interview DC Jim Schwartz
Under contract through 2026, the Browns are interviewing defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz for their head coaching vacancy. Schwartz is seen as a legitimate candidate given the success of the defense over the last three seasons and the talent on the defensive coaching staff.
OC Tommy Rees next in line
Interviewing both of their coordinators, Rees will also get a crack at the head coaching gig in Cleveland. He’s currently under contract and could even be brought back as the offensive coordinator, depending on who the head coach turns out to be.
