BrewDog, the Scotland-based craft brewer and bar operator, has permanently closed its Short North and Franklinton taprooms.
In two separate Facebook posts, the company said a tough decision was reached to close the Short North and Franklinton locations. The company, which bases its U.S. operations in central Ohio, thanked guests, teammates and the local community for the memories and support.
“Thank you for the memories, the support, and the incredible community that made this space special,” each post said in the caption. “We’re grateful for every guest, every moment, and every team member who brought this taproom to life.”
BrewDog launched in 2007 when James Watt and Martin Dickie opened their first bar in Aberdeen, Scotland. The brand quickly grew into a global craft beer presence with bars, brewpubs and a large brewing facility in Canal Winchester.
In central Ohio, BrewDog made its U.S. debut with the DogTap brewpub and brewery in Canal Winchester in 2017.
The Short North bar opened April 14, 2018, as BrewDog’s first stand-alone U.S. location featuring 24 taps and pizzas in a cozy neighborhood setting. A few weeks later, BrewDog Franklinton opened in May 2018 with expanded tap lines, rooftop patios and food offerings that helped anchor the city’s growing craft beer scene.
Ohio has seen other BrewDog changes. In June 2025, the company closed its Cincinnati taproom after nearly six years amid broader shifts in its U.S. footprint.
Despite the Short North and Franklinton closures, BrewDog says guests can continue to enjoy its beer at DogTap in Canal Winchester, in New Albany, its Cleveland retail bar, and through local retailers and partner bars.
