Coroner identifies woman killed when power pole fell on SUV in crash

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has identified a driver killed in a two-vehicle crash after a power pole fell on her SUV in Jefferson Township.

Lakesha Marbury, 43, died at the scene of the April 23 crash, a spokesperson for the coroner’s office said.

An Acura TLX car and Marbury’s Honda Pilot collided at the intersection of North Waggoner Road and Havens Corners Road at 5:51 a.m. that morning, according to a news release by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Acura was eastbound on Havens Corners and the Honda was northbound on North Waggoner Road when the Honda collided with the Acura in the intersection, the sheriff’s office said. Both vehicles went off the northwest side of the intersection.

The Acura struck a power pole, breaking it, and the pole and live power wires fell onto the Honda, the sheriff’s office said.

AEP Ohio responded and turned off the power lines. Jefferson Township Fire Department medics pronounced Marbury dead at 6:55 a.m., over an hour after the crash occurred.

The driver of the Acura was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in stable condition.

Though one of the vehicles apparently ran a traffic signal, the sheriff’s office release did not identify which driver caused the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit at 614-525-6113.
