Wrong-way crash on I-270 kills one, injures another

One person died and another was injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 270 in northeastern Franklin County, the sheriff’s office said.

At 12:47 a.m. on April 23 a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling northbound and the wrong way in the southbound lanes of I-270, just north of Dempsey Road in Blendon Township, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The Cruze collided head-on with an Audi A3 traveling southbound.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at 1:32 a.m. The names of the drivers had not been released by 1 p.m. on April 22.

The interstate was closed for several hours while the sheriff’s office investigated the crash scene and the vehicles were cleared before the freeway was reopened.
