ALLIANCE ‒ An Alliance Municipal Court judge on May 18 set bond at $5 million for a city man accused of shooting and killing his wife.
Robert Ross, 50, is charged with murder in the death of Ashley Ross, 38. Her body was found May 13 by her children in their home on West Ely Street. Authorities accused him of shooting her sometime between May 12 and 13 before fleeing the state.
Appearing on video conference from the Stark County Jail with his attorney Julie Jakmides, Ross waived his right for a preliminary hearing and did not enter a plea. Ross asked that the case be sent to the grand jury.
Prosecutors asked for no bond, saying Ross is a flight risk. He was apprehended in West Virginia after the shooting. Judge Andrew Zumbar set the bond at $5 million.
Ross was stopped on Interstate 68 — which connects Morgantown, West Virginia, to the Maryland state line — without incident, according to a U.S. Marshals Service press release.
He was arrested May 13 by U.S. marshals in Monongalia County in West Virginia. Ross was returned to Stark County and placed in the jail on May 15.
The motive for the shooting is not clear, but authorities said Ashley Ross suffered a gunshot wound and traumatic injuries to her arms and head, adding the gunshot wound was “not the only violence” she suffered.
