Who is the 'X-factor' for the Jets ahead of 2026 NFL season?

The New York Jets will be lead by some obvious faces during the 2026 NFL season, such as head coach Aaron Glenn and quarterback Geno Smith.

Clearly individuals of such status will have their impact on the teams upcoming campaign. But what about those that are under-the-surface or overlooked?

FOX Sports recently predicted the “X-factor” for every NFL team once next season rolls around. In New York, the choice was cornerback Nahshon Wright.

While the exercise is one based on a player that might not be so obvious, it is obvious why Wright was selected.

The 27-year-old was signed this spring to start at outside cornerback for the Jets after the departure of Sauce Gardner last season. Whether it was with or without Gardner, the Jets simply failed to notch a single interception the entire 2025 season.

If Wright is the first defender to do so for the team since 2024, clearly he would be an “X-factor.”

FOX Sports’ breakdown on Wright can be found below:

The Jets failed to record a single interception last season, so they desperately need more defensive playmaking in 2026. If Wright plays to the level he did in Chicago in 2025 — five interceptions en route to Pro Bowl honors — New York could have a competitive defense under coach Aaron Glenn.
