Yonkers is among the country’s safest cities, according to a ranking by personal finance company WalletHub.
Yonkers was ranked fifth safest.

Other New York cities on the list were Rochester, which WalletHub ranked 91st; New York City, which ranked 117th; and Buffalo, ranked 140th.
Where is the safest city in America?
Number-one was Warwick, Rhode Island, followed by Overland Park, Kansas; Burlington, Vermont; and Juneau, Alaska, WalletHub said.
Of Rhode Island’s Warwick, WalletHub said it is “the safest city, with the third-lowest number of aggravated assaults per capita and the 32nd-lowest number of murders out of the 182 cities in our study. It also has the seventh-lowest number of thefts per capita.”
How did WalletHub determine the safest cities?
WalletHub said it compared the 182 cities, which included the 150 most populated ones plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state, across three areas: home and community safety; natural-disaster risk; and financial safety. Those areas were examined using 41 metrics, each given various weight.
“We then determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample,” WalletHub said.
