A small plane carrying two people crashed into the Hudson River near Stewart International Airport in Newburgh Monday, March 2.
New York State Police said a Cessna 172 single-engine airplane crashed in the Hudson River south of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge around 8:02 p.m. Monday.
Both occupants of the plane self-extricated and were found on shore near 401 Water Street in Newburgh. They were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with minor injuries.
Gov. Kathy Hochul called the incident “another miracle on the Hudson,” referring back to an emergency landing of a U.S. Airways commercial plane in the Hudson River near New York City in 2009.
The plane was reported to have arrived from McArthur Airport in Long Island to practice landings at Stewart International Airport.
New York State Police and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting an investigation into the crash.
