Sip Chardonnay to support Canandaigua Lake efforts

This summer, you can eat, drink and be a Canandaigua Lake steward through the Savor the Flavor program.

Like they did last summer, Nolan’s on Canandaigua Lake and Heron Hill Winery are pairing up to help the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association and its mission of protecting, preserving and restoring the lake through science, education and advocacy.

This is how they do it.

A toast to Canandaigua Lake

From now through Sept. 30, Nolan’s will feature a limited-edition Heron Hill Winery Chardonnay in support of the Watershed Association.

A portion of every bottle sold will be donated to the Canandaigua Lake conservation organization. The program is more than a toast and a tip of the glass to the Watershed Association’s efforts; this is an opportunity to raise awareness of how everyone can protect water quality.

And if you’re going to help preserve the lake, a crisp Chardonnay from one of the Finger Lakes region’s favorite wineries is an appealing bonus. Heron Hill Winery founders John and Josephine Ingle have sustainably farmed their Ingle Vineyard on the west side of Canandaigua Lake for their wines for five decades.

Canandaigua Lake is one of the region’s greatest natural assets, said Jessie Gorcica, director of sales and marketing at Heron Hill Winery.

“We’re proud to once again support CLWA’s efforts to educate the community and protect the lake that contributes so much to the Finger Lakes experience,” Gorcica said.

Dine and learn at Nolan’s on Canandaigua Lake

Nolan’s is the “official restaurant partner” of the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association, and the title carries some responsibility, which Nick Violas, founder and co-owner of Nolan’s on Canandaigua Lake and Nolan’s Catering at Hotel Canandaigua, is happy to take on.

Residents, visitors, business owners and boaters all share a voice for lake protection, which is a message Nolan’s shares through educational materials, staff engagement and conversations with guests.

“Our guests come here because they love the lake,” Violas stated. “By partnering with CLWA, we’re helping connect that appreciation to action and showing how small choices can make a lasting difference.”

Partnerships help Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association

Last year’s partnership demonstrated how businesses, nonprofits and community members can come together around a shared love for Canandaigua Lake, stated Katrina Busch, a board member and marketing committee chair for the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association.

“Protecting Canandaigua Lake takes all of us,” Busch said. “We’re grateful for Nolan’s continued partnership in helping turn appreciation for the lake into action and demonstrating how businesses can be a powerful force for stewardship.”

What is the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association?

The Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association is a membership-based nonprofit dedicated to preserving the health of the lake through science, advocacy and community action.

Its water quality monitoring program engages more than 80 citizen scientist volunteers at strategic points around the lake to track harmful algal blooms and other environmental indicators. The Watershed Association also works closely with local municipalities to advance lake-friendly landscaping practices, and produces an educational series helping residents and businesses adopt sustainable lake-friendly living watershed stewardship practices.

These efforts, combined with the organization’s ongoing advocacy at the state and local level, continue to protect Canandaigua Lake for recreation, drinking water and future generations.
