Voters in Steuben, Allegany and Livingston counties approved most public school budgets and elected board of education candidates on May 19.
Prattsburgh’s budget proposal did not receive the needed super majority to pass. Propositions to support public library levies and transportation initiatives roundly passed, although an electric vehicle measure in Dansville was turned down by district voters and Hammondsport voted down its library funding proposition.
Across the state, preliminary results show that approximately 95 percent of school budgets passed statewide, according to the New York State United Teachers union.
“Once again, New Yorkers made their voices heard: public schools matter. Across the state, voters chose to invest in the schools that bring communities together, create opportunities for kids, and help ensure every child has the support they need to succeed,” stated New York State United Teachers President Melinda Person.
“We’re grateful to the New Yorkers who continue to believe in the promise of public education — and in the educators, school staff and families who make that promise real every day.”
Here is a roundup of the results from area school districts.
