A 30-year-old Rochester man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a downtown bank this week.
The bank robbery
An armed man entered Five Star Bank on Chestnut Street on Tuesday afternoon, threatened a teller and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Rochester police. The hold-up alarm was triggered around 1:30 p.m. The suspect is accused of threatening to have a gun on hand, but did not display a weapon, said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department.
Apprehended the same day
Investigators received a description of a vehicle (and license plate information) linked to the robbery. They located the suspect vehicle near Avenue D and Joseph Avenue around 7:30 p.m. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, sped off when officers attempted to stop him. The car crashed into a curb near Remington Street and the driver ran from the scene but was quickly apprehended by police, Umbrino said.
Man charged
Naquan White, 30, of Rochester was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, Umbrino said. Evidence linked to the bank robbery was recovered from White’s residence after a search warrant was executed at his home. He is to be arraigned in CAP Court Wednesday evening.
White is currently on probation following a federal weapons conviction and was released from federal prison last month, Umbrino said.
Additional charges are pending.
