The body of a 29-year-old Rochester woman was found buried in Yates County, according to Rochester police.
Her death marks Rochester’s third homicide of 2026, according to the Rochester Police Department’s Open Data Portal.
Rochester woman reported missing
On May 7, relative of Majesty Montgomery reported the 29-year-old Rochester resident missing, stating that they had not seen or heard from her in more than 24 hours. As officers investigated the case, they became concerned that Montgomery might be the victim of a crime, said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department.
RPD’s Major Crimes Homicide Unit started to investigate her disappearance.
Body found in Yates County
The investigation led police to a large piece of land in Yates County on May 8, Umbrino said. While investigators walked on the property, they found an area that “appeared to have been recently disturbed,” Umbrino said.
Authorities excavated the area and found Montgomery’s body several feet underground, he said.
Homicide occurred in Rochester
The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the manner of death a homicide, Umbrino said. Police did not release the cause of death but said it appeared that she was killed within Rochester city limits – at 32 1/2 Austin St. – and her remains were moved and buried on the Yates County property, Umbrino said.
Who was Majesty Montgomery?
Majesty Montgomery was “lovingly called “Magic” by her mother – her oldest child, first heartbeat, and first headache – but above all, her perfect baby. From the very beginning, Majesty brought joy, love, and unforgettable energy to everyone blessed to know her,” her obituary read.
She was a creative, artistic soul, was confident, fearless, stylish and strong-minded, her obituary said. Though small in stature, she stood tall and never backed down.
“Majesty brought light, laughter and love into every room she entered,” according to her obituary. “She will forever be remembered for her vibrant personality, caring heart, and the joy she brought into the lives of others.”
