Report: Nets have shown trade interest in Celtics' Jaylen Brown

The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a disappointing 2025-26 NBA season in which they finished with a lowly 20-62 record that ultimately awarded them with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Brooklyn does not own its first-round pick in 2027 so it’s likely that the team is going to try to improve as much as possible and it looks like they’re exploring how to do so.

“Brown has drawn trade interest from various teams across the league, including the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Atlanta Hawks, and Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told HoopsHype,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported on Sunday. Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown seems to be considered a likely trade candidate at this point because of the failed trade negotiations between the Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks regarding a Brown-for-Giannis Antetokounmpo swap.

“Brooklyn nearly acquired Brown in trade talks for Kevin Durant before pivoting to Phoenix’s package in 2023,” Scotto continued in his report. “The Nets are armed with a treasure chest of future first-round picks, the expiring contract of last year’s All-Star candidate Michael Porter Jr., which would likely be needed to make any trade logistically, and center Day’Ron Sharpe, whom Boston had interest in last year, as HoopsHype reported.”

Brown, 29, had arguably the best season of his career this past year as he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47.7% from the field and 34.7% from behind the three-point line. While the Celtics would likely desire to keep the tandem of Brown and Jayson Tatum together heading into next season, it seems like the relationship between Brown and the organization could be weakened at the very least.

For a team like the Nets that almost traded for Brown three years ago when they were trying to deal Kevin Durant away, it stands to reason that general manager Sean Marks still values Brown today the same way he did back then. Getting Brown would likely cost Brooklyn multiple first-round picks and a player or two, but with the Nets showing trade interest in him, it seems like a trade is a possibility later this offseason.
