Part of Route 54 in Yates County closing for emergency repairs: What to know

A portion of State Route 54 in the town of Barrington, Yates County, will be closed to traffic beginning at 6 a.m. June 16 so that work crews can begin an emergency culvert replacement project.

The road will be closed at the culvert one mile north of the Steuben County line and is anticipated to reopen June 20, state Department of Transportation officials said.

Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour using State Routes 230 and 14A. Variable message signboards have been positioned to alert motorists of the closure.

Travel delays are expected, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if possible. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

A reminder: Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
