NYC hiker dies after rescue in Harriman State Park, police said

A hiker in Harriman State Park died Sunday, Dec. 28 after New York State Park Police State Police and multiple volunteer responder agencies worked to rescue him.

New York State Police on Monday, Dec. 29, identified the hiker as Gabriel Tse, 65, of New York City.

Police said an investigation continued, but the death was not considered suspicious.

New York State Park Police responded to reports at 10:28 a.m. of an unconscious hiker near Reeve’s Meadow. When police arrived, CPR was being administered by bystanders.

Park Police and then Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps paramedics stepped in to relieve CPR efforts, according to state park police.

The hiker was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m., park police reported.

Spring Hill, which serves Clarkstown and Ramapo, reported that other responding agencies included Sloatsburg Fire Department, Tallman Fire Department, Rockland County Technical Rescue Team and Chaverim of Rockland.

Local responders reported that due to recent cold and snowfall, conditions on state park trails were icy and challenging.
