Gov. Kathy Hochul is encouraging New Yorkers to take part in events across the state commemorating America’s 250th birthday, with more than 200 activities, exhibitions and historical programs planned throughout 2026.
The celebrations range from tall ships in New York Harbor and Revolutionary War reenactments to museum exhibits highlighting Black, Indigenous and other perspectives on American history.
“The 250th birthday of our country has given us the opportunity to unite with our neighbors and communities and celebrate,” Hochul said in a statement.

Among the featured events:
New York State Museum opening major exhibition
A centerpiece of the state’s America 250 programming will be “Revolutionary New York,” opening July 1 at the New York State Museum in Albany.
The 7,000-square-foot exhibit will feature more than 200 artifacts and explore both the Revolutionary War and later movements that expanded civil rights, including women’s suffrage, emancipation, the Underground Railroad and the Stonewall uprising.
Path Through History weekend returns June 20-21
Officials are also promoting New York’s Path Through History program, which highlights historic sites, museums and cultural attractions statewide.
The next Path Through History Weekend is scheduled for June 20-21, featuring special events and activities at participating sites.
New York also continues to offer self-guided heritage tourism opportunities, including digital passport programs, historic trails and Revolutionary War-themed travel itineraries.
