A person was killed early Sunday after a wrong-way driver caused a head-on crash on Interstate 90 in Albany, according to New York State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at about 1:53 a.m. June 7 on the westbound side of I-90 near Exit 5A.
Wrong-way vehicle struck oncoming car
A preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes collided head-on with a vehicle traveling westbound.
The driver of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was transported to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
Investigation remains ongoing
The crash prompted the closure of westbound I-90 between Exits 6 and 5A while investigators and collision reconstruction teams worked at the scene.
All lanes reopened at approximately 6:30 a.m.
State police said the investigation remains ongoing.
