The New York Giants had the opportunity to select Las Vegas Raiders star tight end Brock Bowers with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and a re-envisioning of that year’s draft makes a compelling case for the pairing.
In a 2024 re-draft from CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles, the Giants select Bowers at No. 6 overall.
Bowers’ rookie year — 112 receptions for 1,194 yards and five touchdowns — was the best we’ve seen from a rookie tight end. He moves like a wide receiver. And even in an injury-derailed second year, he reminded everyone what he can do with a 12-catch, 127-yard, three-touchdown day against the Jaguars. Bowers is the rare tight end around which you can build an entire passing game, and as the NFL leans more heavily into tight ends, the Giants go tight end in this do-over.
The Giants instead selected Malik Nabers with the No. 6 pick in the 2024 draft, and he has already developed into one of the best wide receivers in the league. A 1,000-yard receiver as a rookie, Nabers has become a foundational piece for New York. Still, Bowers has demonstrated elite receiving prowess of his own.
Bowers emerged as arguably the best tight end in the NFL after his stellar rookie season in 2024, during which he recorded 1,194 receiving yards for the Raiders. The Georgia product appears poised to be a perennial 1,000-yard receiver for years to come.
As a top-tier pass-catching tight end, he would have filled a position where the Giants have lacked consistent talent for years.
Nabers, meanwhile, went to the Tennessee Titans at No. 7 overall.
