Several prominent experts are predicting the New York Giants will be this year’s New England Patriots, with a bounce-back season of monumental proportions.
The Patriots represented the AFC in the Super Bowl this past February, going 14-3 in the regular season after logging consecutive 4-13 campaigns in 2024 and 2023.
The Giants have a record of 13-38 over the past three years and have just one winning season since 2017. The addition of a new head coaching staff led by John Harbaugh and an infusion of young talent has many optimistic that the Giants can pull off something similar to what the Pats did last season.
Joe Gibbs of Sharp Football Analysis agrees that all the signs for a possible turnaround are there, but concerns remain.
The Giants have been one of the most dysfunctional franchises over the past decade and are banking on the arrival of John Harbaugh providing stability at the head coaching position.
On paper, the G-Men’s impressive front seven has the potential to wreak havoc.
But it’s on the offensive side of the ball where New York’s season will be determined.
Their “big three” of Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo, and Malik Nabers are all injury-prone, and that trio remaining healthy is vital if the Giants plan to return to prominence.
Strategic offseason moves have generated a ton of hype, and the Giants are one of the more intriguing teams going into the season.
In reality, they are at least a year away from legitimate contender tier status.
If everything aligns in their favor, the Giants can finish around .500 and possibly push for a Wild Card spot.
The injuries to the “Big Three” are very much a concern going forward. Dart is not backing off his reckless style of play, which cost him several games last year, suffering a concussion and being checked for several others.
Skattebo’s lower leg injuries are said to be healing nicely, and his rehab is on schedule, but there is still some doubt about when he’ll be completely healed and ready to go full tilt.
Nabers’s knee injury, which knocked him out for the season early last October, is a complex one that needed further surgery this spring. The Giants are hoping to have him back for the start of the regular season, but he could end up on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list this summer.
