The New York Jets held another series of 2026 NFL minicamp practices last week. One of the standout performers was veteran EDGE Joseph Ossai.
Ossai is displaying precisely why the Jets signed him to a three-year, $34.5 million contract in free agency that pays him more than $11 million annually.
Wednesday’s practice was described as a “good day for Ossai and the defensive line,” according to Sports Illustrated. Ossai reportedly had a would-be sack in the red zone.
That’s the type of impact the Jets are hoping he brings to their retooled pass rush this season.
Ossai registered five sacks for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2025. It matched his previous career-high from 2024, giving him a combined 10 sacks over the past two campaigns. Pro Football Focus credited the former Texas Longhorns standout with generating 43 quarterback pressures a year ago.
Ossai currently projects as a major factor in the Jets’ new-look pass rusher. On any given down, he’ll support returning sack artist Will McDonald IV and No. 2 overall pick David Bailey. With Ossai, the Jets have a rotation of pass rushers that should consistently impact opposing quarterbacks.
Ossai is already thriving at minicamp, and that’s a great sign for the Jets.
