A music legend who lives in our own backyard will celebrate his 80th birthday on July 31 with a show at Marge’s Lakeside Inn, 4909 Culver Road, Irondequoit.
Soon-to-be octogenarian Gary Lewis rose to fame in the 1960s as the lead singer of Gary Lewis & the Playboys, which in 1965 scored a No. 1 hit with “This Diamond Ring” (knocking The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” from that spot) and seven straight Top 10 singles.
The son of comedian Jerry Lewis, Gary settled here after meeting a Rochester woman, Donna Grow, whom he married in 2003.
He was inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame in 2017.
Blue 22 will open the July 31 show at Marge’s at 6 p.m.; Gary Lewis & the Playboys will take the stage at 7 p.m.
