The New York Jets decided to trade special teams ace Irv Charles to the Seattle Seahawks on the first day of spring practices.
There appears to be no love lost.
The first day of OTAs for the Jets was on Wednesday. On that same day, it was announced that Charles was dealt to Seattle for a late-round draft pick.
Charles had fallen off the radar in a big way in 2025, the first season with Aaron Glenn in charge at head coach. At the end of the 2024 season, Charles tore his ACL and missed the entire 2025 year.
Prior to that, Charles was a standout player on special teams for the Jets. That came in 2023 and 2024 as Charles had more than 400 snaps on special teams in 25 games over those two years. He made 14 tackles as a gunner.
Based on Charles’ comment on social media, he was not happy with the Jets as he wrote “outta there” after news of the trade surfaced:
There is no direct message expressed by Charles that he did not enjoy Glenn’s tenure. The timeline of events do match, though.
Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
