Four adults were arrested and one juvenile was charged following an investigation into a disturbance and physical altercation at the American Legion in the village of Avoca, according to New York State Police.
The incident occurred around 8:36 p.m. June 16 at the American Legion, 33 S. Main St., where troopers responded to reports of multiple people fighting.
Two people injured, children present during altercation
When troopers arrived, they worked to de-escalate the situation. Police said several people refused to comply with lawful commands and continued acting aggressively.
Investigators determined that multiple children were present during incidents earlier that evening and during the fight at the American Legion. Two people suffered physical injuries during the altercation, police said.
Four adults arrested, juvenile charged
Following the investigation, state police arrested the following individuals on June 17:
Police said Knowlton-Leach fled as officers attempted to execute an arrest warrant. After a search of the surrounding area, he surrendered without further incident.
A 16-year-old also was issued a Family Court appearance ticket charging second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
Investigation
The adult defendants were processed and arraigned through the Steuben County Jail.
The New York State Police were assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
