Former Amerk player goes viral for video showing golf course fight

Nick Tarnasky was no stranger to scuffles during his extensive professional hockey career. Apparently, his bruising personality has carried over to the golf course.

The former Rochester American went viral earlier this week after a video surfaced of an altercation between Tarnasky and another golfer.

The video shows Tarnasky arguing with another group of golfers regarding apparent slow pace of play. At one point, Tarnasky is heard saying, “Let’s get going, or you can play behind us and take all the time you f—— want.” One of the challengers then rushes at Tarnasky, who pushes the man into a nearby pond before delivering several punches.

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel, the incident took place at Alberta Springs Golf Resort in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. No charges have been filed. However, the youth hockey organization Tarnasky coaches for in Alberta said it is conducting an internal investigation.

Tarnasky, 40, appeared in 245 games in the National Hockey League and accumulated 297 penalty minutes. That includes 39 fighting majors.

He played 79 games for the Amerks across two stints, primarily during the 2012-13 season when he scored 16 goals and 26 points, and racked up a team-high 138 minutes in penalties. Tarnasky last played professionally in 2016-17 for the San Diego Gulls.

Tarnasky has not spoken publicly about the incident yet, but apparently recorded an interview for a future episode of the popular hockey podcast Spittin’ Chiclets.
