Fairport senior Jon Roessel caught two touchdowns and two interceptions during the Raiders’ 42-0 win over Section IV’s Ithaca in the season opener Friday, Sept. 5.
Roessel caught four passes for 78 yards and touchdowns of 40 and 25 yards. Both touchdowns were thrown by senior quarterback Sam Roselli. Junior running back Dan Roessel rushed for 105 yards and scored a 40-yard touchdown.
Meanwhile, the Raiders’ (1-0) defense pitched a shut out. The defensive front owned the line of scrimmage, forced turnovers, and even took advantage of unforced turnovers, like when Ryan Sullivan scooped a mishandled snap and returned the fumble 15 yards for a touchdown. Fairport led 35-0 at halftime.
Fairport used Week 1 to host the Don Santini Memorial Game, which honored the legendary football coach who died earlier this year. The Roessel’s father, as well as Fairport co-coach Rob Consaul, played for Santini.
