The Brooklyn Nets could end up with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft after Sunday’s Lottery if they are lucky enough following the conclusion of the event. After finishing the 2025-26 season with a 20-62 record, Brooklyn is hoping to get the best pick possible, but who should they choose if they end up with the No. 7 pick in the draft?
“Kingston Flemings has become a very popular prospect with a comforting mix of physical tools, burst, pull-up shooting, playmaking IQ and late clock/game maturity,” Jonathan Wasserman wrote for Bleacher Report when discussing Houston guard Kingston Flemings. Flemings is regarded by many to be among the second tier of players once BYU forward AJ Dybantsa, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, and Duke forward Cameron Boozer are off the board.
“If there are concerns, they’re mostly about his ceiling—there isn’t a long list of first-round success stories of prospects who shoot fewer than 6.0 threes per 100 possessions and have a free-throw rate under 30.0,” Wasserman continued. “He struggled late in the season against Illinois, Arizona and Kansas settling for contested two-point jumpers.”
Flemings finished his one-and-done season with the Houston Cougars boasting averages of 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 47.6% from the field and 38.7% from three-point land. If the Nets decide to go the route of taking a guard, Flemings is among a group of them that should be available along with players like Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. and Illinois guard Keaton Wagler.
Granted, Brooklyn did select at least four guards in the 2025 NBA Draft headlined by their selection of guard Egor Demin with the No. 8 overall pick, but there’s no such thing as too much talent at one position group. Ultimately, if the Nets are in the position where they will have to consider prospects further down the board than they were hoping for, Flemings could be a good choose for a team still in the early stages of its rebuild.
