The backdrop has changed dramatically for Florida State.
In a span of one week, the Seminoles are the talk of college football.
After stunning heavily favored and then-No. 8 Alabama 31-17 and quieting critics in their season opener last Saturday, FSU enters its second consecutive home game Saturday as significant favorites over FCS East Texas A&M.
Kickoff is noon at newly-renovated Doak Campbell Stadium and the non-conference game will be televised on the ACC Network.
FSU (1-0), ranked No. 14 in the AP Top-25 and 19 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, is tabbed a 44.5-point favorite over the Lions (0-1). East Texas A&M dropped its opener 42-13 at SMU last Saturday.
While the Seminoles’ opener against the Crimson Tide was sold out at 67,277, that’s not expected to be the case against the Lions. However, a large crowd is expected; FSU’s students claimed their full allotment for the second consecutive week.
A familiar face will also be on the Lions’ sideline in Jim Curry, the program’s athletic director and former FSU senior athletics administrator. Additionally, East Texas A&M placekicker Ozlo Rigby of Panama City, Florida, Bay High made 2 of 3 fields goals against SMU.
It should be an ideal afternoon for football, too.
The weather forecast calls for plenty of sun with partly cloudy skies and temps in the high-80s for kickoff.
