Two neighborhoods in southeast Rochester are offering garden walks and entertainment the weekend of July 11-12.
A Garden Stroll in Upper Monroe will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Attendees must check in at one of two tents, on Hinsdale Street near Werner Park or on Laburnam Crescent next to School No. 35. There they will receive maps of the garden locations and additional information about the event and the neighborhood, which includes several community gardens. Gardeners will be available to answer questions.
At sites near some of the gardens, musicians will perform and Greater Rochester Plein Air Painters will paint.
Parking will be available at Cobbs Hill Park, Wide Water Gardens at the north end of Rosedale Street, Culver Road Armory and School 35 and on streets, which have alternate-side parking.
Admission is free. To reserve a spot, go to https://bit.ly/4y3MPm2. For more information on the community gardens and the neighborhood, go to https://www.uppermonroe.com/about-the-neighborhood/gardens-and-gardening.
The 7th ABC Streets Neighborhood Association Garden Walk will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 12.
Attendees will get a map and guide at Triangle Garden at Calumet and Harvard streets. It will highlight 10 front, side and hidden gardens at walkable locations in the neighborhood, which is bound by Culver Road, Harvard, Park Avene and Colby Street. It also will feature gardens at two nearby mansions, which are new to the walk.
Shaded seating and live fiddle music will be available on Calumet. Greater Rochester Plein Air Painters will be working in the neighborhood, and Michael Hannen’s Rare & Different Plants will be sold.
The association says a $5 donation will be appreciated to help support public spaces.
Parking will be available at the parking lot at East Avenue Dentistry, 1641 East Ave., and on neighborhood streets. Parking is available on either side of Park Avenue; other streets have alternate-side parking.
The biennial event began in 2015.
