Three Elmira Notre Dame seniors received the school’s Athlete of the Year awards at its awards ceremony June 9.
Makenna Keough was named the Sal & Elizabeth Salafia Female Athlete of the Year. She earned all-state honors in soccer after helping Notre Dame to the Section 4 Class C title. Keough qualified for the state meet in both indoor and outdoor track & field.
Keough was also this year’s winner of the $15,000 Ernie Davis Scholarship. She was recognized for her contributions to the Ernie Davis Community Center.
The Ray Gavigan Male Athlete of the Year award was shared by Gabe Patterson and Luke Richards.
Patterson was Interscholastic Athletic Conference Large School South Division Most Valuable Player in boys basketball. He was an IAC first-team all-star in soccer during the fall.
Richards was a dominant pitcher who helped Notre Dame to the Section 4 Class D baseball title. He was named Co-MVP in the IAC South Large School Division and also played basketball and soccer.
Jackson Potter received the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award. Isabella Mashewske was selected the Katie Cain Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Steve Bednarek Most Improved Female Athlete of the Year: Zoey McClelland.
Fran Essen Most Improved Male Athlete of the Year: Sebastian Capriotti.
Mike D’Aloisio Coach of the Year: Joe Picco.
John Cain Excellence In Coaching Award: Brad Bellinger.
Girls basketball: Most Valuable Player – Payton Sutryk and Kalysta DeMark; Most Improved Player (Mike Tobin Award) – Leah O’Connell; Coach’s Award – Jhamairah Maxwell.
Boys basketball: MVP – Gabe Patterson; MIP – Rocco Sayers; Wayne Moschetti Memorial Award – Henry O’Toole; Coach’s Award – Max O’Connor.
Modified football: E.J. Brewer Marine Detachment Award – Michael Sutryk; Peter Mehalick Courage Award – Luka Clark; Joe Dwyer Lineman of the Year – Bradly Brown; Biagio A. Maio Defensive Lineman Award – Morgan Kone.
