Motorcycle traveling at ‘unsafe speed,’ troopers say

The crash occurred just after 7:15 p.m. Thursday, July 2, on State Route 52 in the town of Wawarsing.

Troopers said a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound at what appeared to be an unsafe speed when the rider lost control. The motorcycle slid onto its side, crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

After the collision, the motorcycle slid underneath the eastbound vehicle, state police said.

The driver of the car, a 57-year-old woman from Orange County, swerved in an attempt to avoid the motorcycle before striking a rock barrier, according to investigators.

One killed, three injured

The motorcyclist, Ryan M. Conklin, 18, of Spring Glen, was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The driver of the car and two passengers, both in their 70s from Milford, Pennsylvania, suffered minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigation continues

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact New York State Police at (845) 344-5300.
