ANAHEIM, CALIF. – The Milwaukee Brewers once again take on the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium on Saturday night, Aug. 1.
Left-hander Robert Gasser (3-4, 4.71) takes the mound for Milwaukee and will be countered by left-hander Brent Suter, who will open after right-hander José Soriano (9-6, 3.29) was scratched by Los Angeles.
There was also a trade earlier in the day, with outfielder Blake Perkins and right-hander Craig Yoho going to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for catcher Bo Naylor and right-hander Codi Heuer.
Milwaukee takes its first lead
Left-hander Sammy Natera Jr. struck out the side in the seventh after entering and then Joey Ortiz to begin the eighth before Jackson Chourio doubled over the head of Jose Siri in left to snap the streak.
Brice Turang followed by singling softly to center, and Chourio came in to score to put Milwaukee in front for the first time at 2-1.
Another solid showing by Robert Gasser
Gasser faced the minimum in only one of his five innings – the second – but the fifth was really the only time he was in any sort of peril and with two on and two outs, he got Nolan Schanuel to ground out sharply to Brice Turang.
Over 76 pitches, Gasser scattered four hits and two walks while striking out six before giving way to Chad Patrick.
Jake Bauers is heating up again
Bauers, a native of nearby Newport Beach, said “it just kind of smells different” whenever he plays in Anaheim.
Whatever it is, he certainly is comfortable in the batter’s box at Angel Stadium as a night after belting his eighth three-run homer of the season he sent a solo shot out to right-center off Brett Kerry to tie the score at 1-1.
It was the 20th of the season for Bauers, who continues to add to his career high with each subsequent longball.
An early deficit for the Brewers
Mike Trout singled with one out in the first, when with two outs Jorge Soler dropped a bloop hit just over the head of Joey Ortiz at third base.
Trout never slowed down and scored with Jackson Chourio needing to cover a lot of ground in left field to get to the ball and unleash a throw to William Contreras at home.
Suter, meanwhile, got himself into trouble in the second when he walked the bases loaded.
But with two outs, Joey Ortiz grounded into a forceout at third base.
