Fans of Mel Brooks’ comedy “Young Frankenstein,” a humorous take on Mary Shelley’s classic tale of gothic horror, will be pleased to know the Elmira Little Theatre plans to present a live production of the hit movie this summer.
The musical is based on the 1974 film starring Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn and Marty Feldman.
The local production, directed by Kaylara Allington with musical direction by Nolan Desanto, stars Tim Collins as Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the notorious Dr. Victor Frankenstein, played by Connor Kirk.
Other actors include Courteney Seeley as the grandchild of Victor’s loyal henchman Igor, Sara Case as the beautiful lab assistant Inga, Janice Slocum as the mysterious Frau Blücher, Cameron Kirk as the Monster, Abby Cox as Elizabeth Benning, Camden Ayers as Inspector Hans Kemp, Collin Ward as The Hermit, and David Southard as Ziggy.
Based loosely on Shelley’s 1818 novel, the story follows Frederick Frankenstein, who finds himself in his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania to settle Victor’s estate, of which he is the sole heir.
Inevitably, Frederick is sucked into his grandfather’s experiments and succeeds in bringing the Monster to life. By the time they realize the Monster’s been given an abnormal brain, he has already escaped.
Young Frankenstein will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14 in Powers Theatre at the Clemens Center. Additional performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.
The age recommendation for this show is 13+.
Tickets are $35 for general admission, $30 for seniors and students, $28 for Clemens Center members or groups of six or more.
