A man was arrested in Amarillo Wednesday afternoon in connection to a fatal crash over the weekend, Amarillo police announced.
The Amarillo Police Department said that APD PACE officers on July 15 located the suspected driver in the crash, identified as Justin Shepherd, 43.
He was arrested on a charge for collision involving death and was booked into the Potter County Jail.
On Sunday, July 12 around 1:05 a.m., Amarillo officers were sent to the 1200 block of South Georgia Street on a report of a multi-vehicle traffic crash.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a passenger car traveling north on South Georgia failed to stop for a red traffic signal at Southwest 15th Avenue. The car then struck an SUV and a pickup truck, which that were traveling west through the intersection. After the initial collisions, the car continued north before coming to a stop after striking another pickup truck in the 1200 block of South Georgia, police said.
A passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Eric Gilliam, 41, and his family was notified.
The crash remains under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit.
