ACU finance program gains new global recognition

Students at Abilene Christian University will be well-positioned to be designated as a Chartered Financial Analyst, according to a release from ACU Wednesday.

“The affiliation recognizes that the Dukes School of Finance incorporates at least 70% of the CFA Program curriculum into its courses and places emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct,” the university said in a media release.

The designation is “the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world,” the university said.

Dr. Jody Jones, associate professor of finance at ACU, echoed that analysis.

“Entry into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program signals to potential students, employers and the marketplace that ACU’s curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students for the CFA Program examinations,” Jones said. ““There is also immediate and direct benefit to students, as we are eligible to receive several CFA Program Student Scholarships each year.”

The media release adds that the CFA Institute is a worldwide association of investment professionals, the organization champions ethical behavior in investment markets. The CFA aims to create an environment where the interests of investors comes first, where markets function at their best and where economies grow.

University officials cited over 200,000 CFA charter holders in 164 markets worldwide. CFA has nine offices around the globe and count over 160 CFA Societies.

The university’s Dukes school in the College of Business Administration offers a bachelor of business administration. The school is named after Dr. Bill and Janie Dukes whose $29 million estate gift to ACU remains the university’s single largest academic gift in ACU history.
