10 Westchester beaches close after rain. Here's what you need to know

Westchester County’s health department said several beaches are closed Wednesday, July 22, after 0.73 inches of rain fell on Tuesday, July 22.

Tuesday’s storms brought nearly 5 inches of rain to parts of the Westchester area, bringing flash flooding and a possible tornado to the area.

The following beaches are closed:

People are advised to avoid the beach water because of bacterial contamination from road runoff into drainage outfalls near the beaches.

The beaches will be allowed to reopen Thursday, July 23, unless there is significant additional rainfall.
