Will Chit-Chat Wright play for Iowa women's basketball on Saturday?

Iowa women’s basketball player Chit-Chat Wright sustained an undisclosed injury during Thursday’s 57-52 victory over No. 10 Baylor in Kissimmee, Fla.

Wright did not return to the WBCA Showcase game, and Iowa coach Jan Jensen told Hawkeyes Radio afterward that Wright will not play in Saturday’s game against Miami.

Wright, a transfer from Georgia Tech, is averaging 12.6 points per game.

We might learn more on Saturday evening when the Big Ten Conference releases its availability report for the 7 p.m. CT Iowa vs. Miami game.

What happened to Chit-Chat Wright?

Iowa guard Chit-Chat Wright was fouled as she attempted a shot early in the third quarter against Baylor on Thursday and landed hard on the court.

She was tended to by trainers for several minutes before being helped up. Wright was then carried off the court by two Hawkeye staffers.

Iowa’s Hannah Stuelke also was banged up during Thursday’s game and missed some time but eventually returned.

What is Chit-Chat Wright’s injury?

Iowa coach Jan Jensen did not disclose the nature of Wright’s injury during postgame interviews on Hawkeye Radio, though she did confirm that Wright will not be available to play against Miami on Saturday.

How will Chit-Chat Wright’s injury affect the Hawkeyes?

The Hurricanes like to use pressure defense, so Iowa will have a challenge without one of its best ball-handlers.

“Miami does about six different presses, so it’ll be a lot different team than (Baylor),” Jensen said. “We’ll really be tested with our press break And unfortunately, it’s without Chit-Chat. So now, that’s become a lot more ominous.

“Not that it wasn’t before, but trying to break a press with Chit-Chat makes me sleep a lot better at night. Now without Chit-Chat, we’re really going to have to depend on our cuts and our angles. So we don’t have a whole lot of time to work on that.”
