When are parking meters free in downtown Des Moines?
Parking meters in downtown Des Moines will charge drivers Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
So, after 9 p.m. during the week and on Saturdays, meter spots are completely free. Plus, there’s never a charge on Sundays. And if you ever find a meter with a green bag, it’s your lucky day! Those are also free.
When are parking lots free in downtown Des Moines?
From 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday through Friday, or on any weekend, various downtown parking lots are free of charge:
Additionally, the parking lot at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines on the southeast corner of 10th and Locust streets is free from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. during the week and all weekend. It’s located near the Temple for Performing Arts.

Downtown Des Moines has various public and private parking garages. While none of them are free 100% of the time, here’s when you can park with no charge at a downtown garage:

City ramps in Des Moines are also free every Sunday, but may still charge during special events:
