A West Des Moines man’s body was recovered from a lake about 80 miles southwest of Des Moines, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The body of Ronald Brown 70, was found about 11:20 a.m. Sunday, June 7, in Sun Valley Lake after a search that began nearly 25 hours earlier on Saturday and resumed after being suspended overnight, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook posting.
No further information was provided about Brown or the cause of his death. Brown’s daughter, Kelli Leonard, a longtime employee of USA Today Co. in Des Moines whose parents had a home on the lake, posted on Facebook that he had wandered away at some point between midnight and 7 a.m., when the family began trying to find him.
The sheriff’s office said the Midwest Regional Dive Team, Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources the Sun Valley Lake Patrol and the Mount Ayr Fire Department assisted. It also credited Ringgold County Hospital and the Mount Ayr Embers, which it said provided food and water for the searchers.
