In typical Cy-Hawk game fashion, it’s been a barnburner so far between Iowa and Iowa State.
There’ve been turnovers, numerous replays, and more commercials than you can count, but Iowa trails by just three at halftime, 13-10. The Hawkeyes have played anything but a clean game so far, but the score looks a lot better after their first touchdown of the afternoon late in the second quarter.
Mark Gronowski took a designed quarterback run two yards to the endzone to cap off a 17-play, 73-yard touchdown drive for Iowa. It was exactly what the doctor ordered for an Iowa offense that was stuck in the mud for the majority of the first half.
This came after the Hawkeyes were given a second lifeline on the drive. Just one play earlier, Gronowski was sacked on a third and eight, but two flags were thrown. Iowa State was called for a hold and unnecessary roughness on the play, giving Iowa a first and goal from the two. The next play, Gronowski punched it in.
It’s shaping up to be a fun second half in the Cy-Hawk game. Hopefully, that last touchdown drive opens up the Iowa offense in the second half.
