Vote for the Register male Athlete of the Week for March 29-April 4

The week of March 29-April 4 was the first full week of spring sports in Iowa.

The outdoor season of high school track and field got fully underway, and it was the opening week for soccer, tennis and golf for male high school athletes from across the state. Track and field events took place at Grimes, Bondurant and West Des Moines, and there were several exciting boys soccer games and tennis matches featuring teams from the Des Moines metro area.

There were a number of standout performances from male high school athletes from the metro area during the week.

Here are the Des Moines Register’s male Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of March 29-April 4. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Eli Scavo, Norwalk

Scavo pulled off a hat-trick for the Norwalk boys soccer team during a 6-0 victory over Newton to open the season on March 31 at Newton.

Scavo took four shots on goal and he put three of them in the net for the Warriors.

Micah LeLaCheur, Valley

LeLaCheur placed first in the boys high jump for the West Des Moines Valley boys track and field team at the Mustang Invitational in Grimes on March 30.

LeLaCheur, the defending Class 4A state champion in the event, won after clearing the bar at six feet, six inches. That jump currently ranks No. 4 in the state, and it is the top jump from an outdoor meet.

Vihaan Koganti, Des Moines Roosevelt

Koganti dominated his No. 1 singles match against Des Moines Hoover’s Caden Lemons during the Roosevelt boys tennis team’s 11-0 shutout victory over the Huskies on March 31 in Des Moines.

Koganti swept Clemons in straight sets by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

Athan Inthabounh, Des Moines North

Inthabounh took home a gold medal in the varsity boys shot put during the Bondurant-Farrar Co-ed Invitational track and field meet on March 30 in Bondurant.

Inthabounh had a winning toss of 54-10 to win the event by 5.5 feet.

Xavier Keomany, Des Moines Lincoln

Keomany came up big for the Des Moines Lincoln boys soccer team during a 4-2 victory over Bondurant-Farrar on April 2 in Des Moines.

Keomany had a hand in three of the Railsplitters’ goals during the victory. He scored twice and dished out one assist.
