The week of April 5-11 was the second full week of boys outdoor track and field, tennis and soccer in Iowa high school sports.
Boys spring golf got fully underway during the week as well.
There were a number of exciting matchups in golf, soccer and tennis between schools from the Des Moines metro area. The Jim Duncan Invitational co-ed track meet took place on April 11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Several individual male athletes also stood out during the week.
Here are the Des Moines Register’s male Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of April 5-11. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.
Kaiden Kunze, Norwalk
Kunze placed first in the boys long jump with the longest jump among Class 4A boys long jumpers in Iowa so far in 2026.
Kunze jumped 24 feet, five inches on his third attempt to win the gold medal by 3.25 inches over defending 4A state champion Miciah LeLaCheur of West Des Moines Valley.
Kael Streeter, Carlisle
Streeter turned in a big game on offense for the Carlisle boys soccer team during a 10-0 victory over Boone on April 9 at Carlisle.
Streeter put four goals into the net for the Wildcats. He also handed out one assist.
Isack Ramadhani, Des Moines Hoover
Ramadhani turned in an impressive offensive performance for the Des Moines Hoover boys soccer team during a 10-0 victory over Fort Dodge on April 7 at Fort Dodge.
Ramadhani torched the Dodger defense for six goals on the night. He did it on just seven shots on goal while adding two assists.
Treyton Lee, ADM
Lee placed second during an 18-hole dual meet between the Adel-Desoto-Minburn and Gilbert boys golf teams on April 6 at the Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames.
Lee shot a 2 over par score of 72 to finish runner-up behind Ballard’s Johnathan Bouska. Lee’s score is tied for the fifth-best score in 3A thus far, according to Varsity Bound.
Thomas DeWall, Indianola
DeWall won the No. 2 singles match in exciting fashion for the Indianola boys tennis team during a dual against Newton on April 10 at Indianola.
DeWall defeated Newton’s Ethan Freese in straight sets to help the Indians claim a 9-2 victory. DeWall won the first set by a 6-4 score and then outbattled Freese to win the second set by tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1).
