Vote for the Register female Athlete of the Week for April 5-11

The week of April 5-11 was the second full week of girls outdoor track and field and soccer in Iowa high school sports.

Girls golf got fully underway during the week as well.

There were a number of exciting matchups in golf and soccer between schools from the Des Moines metro area. The Jim Duncan Invitational co-ed track meet took place on April 11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Several individual female athletes also stood out during the week.

Here are the Des Moines Register’s female Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of April 5-11. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Abby Chambers, Bondurant-Farrar

Chambers had a monster game for the Bondurant-Farrar girls soccer team during a 10-0 victory over Carroll on April 6 at Bondurant.

Chambers put an impressive six goals into the net for the Bluejays. She got off a whopping 20 shots on goal and added three assists.

Evelyn Kinney, Norwalk

Kinney won medalist honors for the Norwalk girls golf team during the Northwest Invitational on April 6 at The Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk.

Kinney won the 18-hole competition by shooting a 6-over par round of 78. She beat Waukee Northwest’s Adalyn Wiig by one stroke for the victory.

Josie Muelhaupt, Waukee

Muelhaupt was all over the field for the 3A No. 6 Waukee girls soccer team during a 4-1 win over No. 15 Indianola on April 6 at Waukee.

Muelhaupt had a hand in all four Warrior goals. Muelhaupt earned a hat-trick by scoring three times and she assisted on the other Waukee goal.

Keziah Caldwell, Waukee Northwest

Caldwell won the open 400 for the Waukee Northwest girls track and field team during the Jim Duncan Invitational on April 11 in Des Moines.

Caldwell crossed the finish line in 57.46 seconds to win the race by 1.11 seconds over Dallas Center-Grimes’ Leighton Stanford. Caldwell

Teresa Tarplah, Southeast Polk

Tarplah won the girls 200, and she helped Southeast Polk place first in the girls 4×200 relay at the Jim Duncan Invitational on April 11 in Des Moines.

Tarplah clocked in at 26.53 in the 200 to edge Indianola’s Kendal Sandy, who finished in 26.66. Tarplah ran the third leg in the 4×200, helping the Rams run a winning time of 1:31.31, which was a decisive 3.29 seconds faster than Waukee Northwest’s runner-up time.
