Authorities have temporarily suspended a search for a missing boater on the Des Moines River.
The search was suspended at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, because of darkness, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. It said the search will resume when daylight and conditions allow.
The sheriff’s office received a report at 6:45 p.m. Saturday that a boater had gone overboard and had not resurfaced, the release said. It said the identity of the boater was being withheld, but did not specify why.
In addition to the sheriff’s office, agencies involved in the search include the Des Moines, Saylor Township and Johnston fire departments, the release said. It said deputies deployed a drone to assist with the search.
The release gave the location of the search as being near the intersection of NW Morningside Drive and NW 45th Place. There is no mapped intersection of those streets. However, NW 45th Place has its western terminus at NW Morningstar Drive near the river in Saylor Township, which was participating in the search.
