Meet the nominees for Press-Citizen’s Athletes of the Week, Sept. 8-14

Another week of high school sports featured elite performances in the Iowa City area.

Here are the nominees for the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s high school Athletes of the Week for Sept. 8-14. Press-Citizen.com readers vote to decide this week’s winners. Voting closes at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Boys

Keegan Decker, Jr., Iowa City Liberty

Decker placed first in the boys varsity race at the Luther All-American Invitational on Sept. 13.

Decker crossed the finish line in 15:09.8.

Maddox Kelley, Jr., Solon

Kelley showcased his versatility in Solon football’s 35-20 rivalry win over Mount Vernon.

Kelley carried the ball 13 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished with 21 receiving yards and a touchdown in the air.

Logan Laubenthal, Sr., Iowa City Liberty

Laubenthal celebrated his 18th birthday by leading Liberty football’s run game in a 28-7 win over Linn-Mar.

Laubenthal scored the first touchdown of the game with a 35-yard run. He rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Aidan Schrock, Sr., Clear Creek Amana

Despite a 54-21 loss to Xavier, Schrock had a strong defensive game for CCA football.

Schrock totaled 14.5 tackles with three tackles for loss and a sack.

Kyle Tracy, Sr., Iowa City Regina

Tracy couldn’t be contained in Regina football’s 59-27 win over Alburnett.

Tracy threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns. He rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

Girls

Audrey Crawford, Sr., Iowa City West

Crawford earned a singles and doubles win in Iowa City West tennis’ 8-1 win over Linn-Mar on Sept. 11.

Crawford won the first set, 6-4, before she secured the second set, 6-3, in her singles win. She also secured a doubles victory with teammate Zariah Jahangir.

Amilia Mendoza, Soph., Iowa City High

Mendoza led Iowa City High volleyball in assists in its 3-0 win over Cedar Rapids Washington on Sept. 9.

The 5-foot-4 setter totaled 13 assists, averaging 4.3 assists per set. She totaled eight succesful serves and two digs.

Reese Naeve, Sr., Iowa City Regina

Naeve had a stellar game in Regina volleyball’s 3-0 win over Durant on Sept. 11.

The Iowa State commit tallied a team-high 20 kills, averaging 6.7 kills per set. She also totaled nine digs and a serve ace.

Kendall Ronnfeldt, Soph., Clear Creek Amana

Ronnfeldt led CCA volleyball in digs in its 3-0 win over South Tama County on Sept. 9.

Ronnfeldt totaled 10 digs, averaging 3.3 digs per set. She had 15 succesful serves, a serve ace and an assist.

Kennedey Whitford, Sr., Solon

Whitford turned in a strong defensive game in Solon volleyball’s 3-0 win over Mount Vernon on Sept. 9.

The 5-foot-4 libero tallied 21 digs, averaging seven digs per set. She totaled 16 successful serves, three serve aces, three offensive assists and a kill.
