Here's a way to track your water usage as a Corpus Christi customer

Want to know how much water your household is using before the bill from Corpus Christi Water comes?

There’s now a better way for residents and commercial businesses to do that, city officials announced in a May 15 media briefing.

A new online portal will act as “a transparent look at real-time data,” allowing account holders “to identify usage trends, compare daily habits, and spot potential leaks or inefficiencies,” according to a news release issued after the briefing.

The site can be found by going to the city’s homepage, corpuschristitx.gov, and clicking on the “water usage portal” chicklet. There is also a direct link, cctx.info/WaterPortal.

Clicking on a residential account button will lead to a page requesting the street address for the account, as well as the account number that can be found on bills, according to city officials.

Commercial accounts require one piece of additional information, meter identification, the site shows.

Available information through the portal includes water volume used to date within the billing cycle and average daily water use during the previous billing cycle, as well as a 12-month history, said City Manager Peter Zanoni in the briefing.

The city has also produced a short video walking customers through the process.

The application is being unveiled shortly after the City Council gave its first round of approval for rules under a water emergency.

Water allocations — the uppermost volume of water that can be used per month before surcharges are applied — would go into effect, should a water emergency be called.

A water emergency would be declared when, or if, it is projected that within six months, the city’s water supplies would be unable to meet demand.

The most recently publicized projections put a water emergency timeline starting in September; however, it is believed that recent rains will push that back by at least one month or possibly longer, city officials have said.

A new timeline taking into account updated conditions is expected to be disclosed during the City Council’s May 19 meeting.
