Iowa State basketball’s Keshon Gilbert is getting his NBA opportunity with the Washington Wizards. He signed a deal as an undrafted free agent on June 27, a day after the conclusion of the 2025 NBA Draft.
He participated in the NBA G League Elite Camp alongside teammate Curtis Jones, who signed an undrafted free agent deal of his own with the Denver Nuggets.
Gilbert, a 6-foot-4 guard, was one of the Cyclones’ top players. A lingering groin injury hampered the last two months of his senior season and forced him to miss six games, but it was still a productive 2024-25 campaign for the St. Louis native.
Gilbert averaged 13.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He appeared in 29 games, including 28 starts, before being shut down for the postseason. He was a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top point guard, and he earned All-Big 12 third-team honors.
He spent his final two seasons of college at Iowa State. In his first year with the Cyclones, he was named to the All-Big 12 second team and landed on the conference’s All-Newcomer Team. Gilbert was also named Big 12 Tournament MVP during their conference tournament title run in 2024.
Before arriving at Iowa State, he played for two seasons at UNLV.
When healthy, Gilbert proved to be a weapon on both ends of the court. Offensively, his relentlessness when attacking the basket, combined with his playmaking, made him a standout point guard. On the other end, he is a tenacious defender.
Before his groin injury, he was named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 in February, which highlights the top 20 candidates for national player of the year.
Gilbert joins the Wizards, who are in rebuild mode after finishing 18-64 last season and missing the playoffs for the fourth year in a row.
