Iowa State women's wrestling earns commitment from Makennah Craft

Iowa State women’s wrestling has its third commitment to the program after a busy few days for the Cyclones.

Campbellsville transfer Makennah Craft announced her commitment to the Cyclones on May 21 via Instagram. She is coming off of her freshman season where she took third place at the NAIA Championships at 103 pounds. Prior to her lone collegiate season, she was a major high school recruit as a four-time, undefeated Ohio State champion, Ironman champion and Fargo runner-up.

Craft also considered Kent State according to her Instagram, another Division I program in women’s wrestling nearing its first official season like Iowa State.

Craft follows in the footsteps of William Penn transfers Piper Fowler and Christianah Ogunsanya to commit to the program in the last week. Fowler won an NAIA title at 180 pounds and is a U17 World Champion who will represent the United States in the 2026 U20 World Championships. Ogunsanya is a 2024 Olympian and won a U23 World Championships bronze medal in 2025 for Nigeria. She is fresh off winning the 2026 NAIA title at 117 pounds as well.

While Craft does not have the international accolades of her new teammates, her high school pedigree suggests she could have a future in that realm, as well as already being an All-American caliber wrestler at the collegiate level.
