Detroit Lions, former Iowa football LB Jack Campbell agree to new deal

The pipeline from the Iowa Hawkeyes to being the very best of the best at their positions in the NFL got stronger today.

Former Iowa football All-American linebacker Jack Campbell, a first-round draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, going No. 18 overall to Detroit, has agreed to a new deal that keeps him with the Lions.

One of the best young linebackers in the game, questions were bubbling up as to whether the Lions, a team with an abundance of young talent, could keep him home. The deal, which is being reported to be a new contract, opposed to the fifth-year option, is a four-year deal.

In three seasons in the NFL, Jack Campbell has already proved he is one of the best linebackers in the league. He is coming off his best season, totalling 176 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and five sacks. He also earned First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for his efforts during the 2025 season.

While at Iowa, Campbell took home nearly every award a linebacker can. He brought home the Butkus Award, which he has also done at the NFL level, the William V. Campbell Trophy, the Big Ten Linebacker of the Year, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, as well as being named a First-Team All-Big Ten member, and a Unanimous All-American.
