After Caitlin Clark suffered a reported back injury during Indiana’s 111-109 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday (June 24), the Fever (10-8) released their day-before injury report ahead of a Saturday home game against the Los Angeles Sparks (8-9).
Even though the cause of the back injury and whether this is a new injury or an aggravation of a previous injury remain undisclosed, the Fever are operating in a very cautious manner with their superstar point guard.
The Fever listed the former Hawkeye legend as out for the game against the Sparks, citing the back injury.
In coach Stephanie White’s media availability during Friday morning’s team practice, she stated Clark is doing fine before declaring her out. White said the team does not know how long Clark will be sidelined, but noted the team’s eight-day break following Saturday’s game will allow the two-time WNBA All-Star to receive proper treatment.
“She’s OK. She’s gonna be out on Saturday, but she’s doing alright,” White said.
“No indication. Obviously, it’s a good time because we have a week all week next week, so we’ll take this opportunity just to get her treatment, get her healthy, get her back on the floor, and see what happens. … Long-term health and wellness is the most important.”
With the Fever, in all likelihood, confirming Clark’s absence on their game day injury report on Saturday, she will essentially have a 10-day recovery window.
Following the weeklong break in the Fever’s schedule, the team will begin a four-game road trip on July 5 in Las Vegas against the Aces at T-Mobile Arena.
