Team USA named the former Iowa women’s basketball star to its roster on Feb. 11 for the qualifying tournament roster. Besides Clark, rising stars Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen will also make their senior national team debuts.
USA Basketball has already qualified for the World Cup, which is set for Sept. 4-13 in Berlin, Germany. However, the organization still opted to play in the qualifying tournament to get reps for younger players and try out lineups and rotations.
Caitlin Clark back to 100% with Team USA after injury-riddled 2025 season
The Indiana Fever superstar has not played in a game since July 15, when she strained her right groin in Boston against the Connecticut Sun. The ailment marked the fourth separate muscle injury Clark endured during the 2025 season after not missing a single game during her entire college career or WNBA Rookie of the Year campaign.
After being sidelined for more than a month with the injury, the Fever officially ruled her out for the remainder of the regular season and the postseason on Sept. 4.
Clark told the IndyStar she’s not expected to be treated like a star player given her return from injury and that she’s playing alongside a host of WNBA All-Stars.
“I haven’t played basketball in eight months, so getting to do it at this level for my first time back, like there’s no better way than to get tossed out into the fire and figure it out,” Clark said. “But I felt really good through practice, so more than anything, just really excited, but I know the day of the game I’m going to be hyped up and probably a little anxious, but in a good way.”

The head coach of Team USA is Kara Lawson, the Duke women’s basketball coach, with help from assistant coaches Natalie Nakase, Nate Tibbetts, Stephanie White, Jose Fernandez, and Tia Jackson.
